Fancy SlideShow in 60 Sec

This tutorial will cover how to quickly put together a slideshow using Magix Vegas, that retains the following characteristics:

• Consistent Timing
• Dynamic Motion
• Custom Transition

Once you've learned all the aspects of achieving these qualities, putting together a slide show, regardless of the number of images, should take you no more than 60 seconds with this approach.

So we start off in Magix Vegas, with our images already loaded into the workspace.  This can be done simply by dragging them from your windows explorer window into the Project Media panel.

Consistent Timing

Now, before dragging the images into the timeline, we want to adjust some settings.  So go to Options > Preferences, then select the Editing tab. On this panel, we want to adjust the New still image length and the Cut-to-overlap conversion field.  (I actually got this field wrong in the video).

Setting these will adjust the duration of displaying the image, and how much each image overlaps, respectively.  At this stage, when you drag the images into the timeline, you can see they are of the correct duration and overlap amount.

Dynamic Motion

Next, to add motion, we click on the Crop icon on one of the clips in the timeline.

This will bring up the Pan/Crop window.  In this view, we can move the timeline cursor to the end of the timeline and shrink the frame around the image.  This will create a keyframe at the end of the clip and produce a zooming effect on the image as its displayed.

This will produce the zooming effect for one image.  To propagate the effect to other images, simply right-click on the image with the zoom and select copy.  Then select all the other images in the timeline, right-click and select Paste Event Attributes.  Now all the images should have the zoom motion.

Custom Transitions

Finally, to add the custom transitions, brows in the Transitions panel, for the transition you would like to use.  I chose the star wipe.

With all the images in the timeline selected (highlighted), drag the selected transition onto a transition point between two images in the timeline.  This will distribute the transition to all the images.  A dialog box will appear allowing you to customize your transition.  You may adjust settings if you like here.  I chose to go with the default for my example.
